Jimmy Adams Aims to Propel Jersey Cricket to New Heights in T20 World Cup Qualifiers

Jimmy Adams, the former captain of the West Indies, has taken on the role of assistant coach for Jersey as they strive to qualify for the 2028 T20 World Cup. Recognizing Jersey's potential, Adams stated, "Jersey showed in the last tournament in Holland last year that they should be taken seriously." Adams, who has a rich cricketing background with 54 Test matches and two World Cups under his belt, joined the team after former coach Paul Hutchison reached out for assistance. He expressed surprise at the talent within the Jersey squad, saying, "it was really a pleasant surprise on quite a few counts." Jersey, despite its small population of about 100,000, narrowly missed out on the 2024 T20 World Cup due to net run rate. They are currently competing in the ICC 2028 T20 World Cup Sub Regional Europe Qualifier A in Cyprus, having already claimed victories against Switzerland, France, Croatia, and the hosts. Looking ahead, they face rivals Guernsey in a crucial final on Saturday. Adams praised his players' performances, noting, "Every time they've been asked questions at this level, they've been able to answer positively." Jersey's squad includes standout players like Nick Greenwood and Asa Tribe, the latter having recently become eligible for England after representing Jersey. Adams highlighted Tribe's achievements, stating, "To have produced a player so young and so good I think is exceptional." With Jersey's cricketing future at a critical juncture, the team looks to build on their recent successes and make a significant impact on the international stage.
