Jim Furyk Emphasizes Ryder Cup as a Priority for US Golfers Ahead of 2027 Showdown

Jim Furyk has acknowledged the need for the United States to prioritize the Ryder Cup as he prepares for a crucial role as US captain for the second time, aiming for a turnaround at Adare Manor in September 2027. In his first extensive comments since his appointment, Furyk highlighted a shift in strategy and expressed interest in including Tiger Woods in his support team. Following Europe's victory at Bethpage last year, the US has only won two of the last eight Ryder Cups. The PGA of America initially wanted Woods to captain the team, but that plan was derailed by his car accident in March. Furyk, who faced defeat in Paris in 2018, now has a vision for revitalizing the US team. Furyk emphasized the importance of changing the team's attitude, noting that there is a perception that Europeans value the Ryder Cup more than Americans. He stated: "When I look at my job, it’s to create a culture, a chemistry among them... We want to go over there and win on foreign soil." He outlined both short-term and long-term goals: Short-term: Achieve success at Adare. Long-term: Establish a blueprint for continuity and make the Ryder Cup a consistent priority. With Europe favored in Ireland, Furyk's underdog status may play to the Americans' advantage. As the US PGA Championship approaches, Woods' uncertain future remains a topic, with Furyk planning to reach out to him regarding a potential role in the Ryder Cup. Meanwhile, Luke Donald, Furyk's European counterpart, welcomes Jon Rahm back into the fold after a dispute with the DP World Tour. Donald expressed confidence in team unity, saying: "It’s my job to make sure everyone is aligned... putting those feelings... to one side is important if you’re going to be successful." Day one at the US PGA will feature star pairings, including Rory McIlroy, Rahm, and Jordan Spieth, with a focus on McIlroy's recovery from a blister issue.
