Historic Team Time Trial to Debut in London for Tour de France Femmes 2027

London is set to host a groundbreaking event in cycling as it prepares for the first team time trial in the women’s Tour de France in 2027. This landmark moment will see elite riders racing against the clock on an 18km circuit through iconic locations, including the Houses of Parliament, London Eye, and Tower Bridge, culminating at The Mall. Race director Marion Rousse expressed pride in this achievement, stating, “The team time trial has always been one of the most exciting and spectacular formats in cycling, and we are very proud that the first one will take place in London. It’s a huge moment in the history of the race.” Although the men's Tour visited London in 2007 and 2014, this will mark the inaugural appearance of the Tour de France Femmes in the capital. The team time trial will serve as a thrilling finale to three days of UK-based racing. Cat Ferguson, a promising young cyclist and junior world champion, aims to wear the race leader’s yellow jersey during this historic event. Reflecting on her childhood experience watching the men's race, the 19-year-old from Skipton stated, “This feels like a full circle moment for me. I will do everything to be there.” The decision to bring the women's race to London has been hailed by Sadiq Khan, the city’s mayor, as a step towards creating “a better London for everyone” and inspiring future generations of women cyclists. The 2027 Grand Départ will kick off in Leeds, moving to central Manchester, with a challenging second stage to Sheffield, featuring significant climbs. Lucy Jones, project director for the Grand Départ, anticipates this event to be the “highest-attended women’s sporting event in the UK.” For Flora Perkins, who rides for Fenix-Premier Tech, the stage in her hometown is particularly special, emphasizing London’s potential as a cycling city.
