Hamilton Celebrates Second Place After Thrilling Duel with Verstappen at Canadian GP

Lewis Hamilton expressed his delight after securing second place at the Canadian Grand Prix, labelling it as “the greatest job in the world.” The race saw him engage in an exciting battle with his longtime rival Max Verstappen, which he found exhilarating. Hamilton, who started in fifth position, quickly showcased his speed, moving to third early on. However, on lap nine, Verstappen overtook him, leaving Hamilton to grapple with energy deployment issues. Despite this setback, Hamilton demonstrated resilience, reclaiming second place with a decisive move around Verstappen in the final laps, marking his best finish with Ferrari since the Las Vegas GP in 2024. He noted the challenges of his first season with Ferrari, highlighting the need for teamwork and setup adjustments. “There were so many elements that have to come together to get the car in the right place and I think I finally have that,” Hamilton said. In the race, Kimi Antonelli emerged victorious, engaging in an early battle with his Mercedes teammate, George Russell. The duo exchanged the lead multiple times until Russell retired due to a battery issue on lap 30. “Just everything turned off all of a sudden. The engine stopped, no electronics, no proper braking,” Russell stated, visibly frustrated. Currently, Russell trails Antonelli by 43 points in the championship standings. Toto Wolff, the Mercedes team principal, remained optimistic about Russell’s comeback, emphasizing the long season ahead with 17 races still to go.
