Arvid Lindblad Reflects on F1 Debut and Dreams of Racing in India

Arvid Lindblad, Britain's youngest Formula 1 driver, faces an unexpected break in his debut season after just three races. Scheduled to race in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Lindblad instead spends time reflecting on his performance and learning to skateboard. The 18-year-old made his debut at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne, where he impressively finished eighth, earning points for his Racing Bulls team. However, subsequent races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia were canceled due to the ongoing war in the Middle East. Lindblad admits that it hasn't fully sunk in that he is now an F1 driver. "This is something I've been working towards my whole life. So the fact it's come true is extremely special, extremely cool," he expresses. He eagerly anticipates returning to the track in Miami in a fortnight, stating, "Racing is my passion. It's probably what makes me happiest." Fans have noticed Lindblad's helmet adorned with flags representing England, Sweden, and India—a nod to his multicultural background. He shares that racing at his first home Grand Prix at Silverstone in July will be a momentous occasion for him and his family. "There's no real feeling like it," he remarks. Despite his excitement, Lindblad acknowledges that racing in India, where the Buddh International Circuit hosted F1 races until 2013, would be a dream come true. Although recent claims of a return to India in 2027 have been denied by F1 officials, Lindblad remains hopeful. As a newcomer to the sport, he looks forward to his moment in the spotlight on the Netflix series Drive to Survive, which has followed F1 since he was ten. He enjoys camaraderie with teammate Liam Lawson and finds a connection with four-time world champion Max Verstappen, whose journey mirrors his own.
