Ella Toone Contemplates Future with Manchester United Amid World Cup Aspirations

Ella Toone is at a crossroads as she evaluates her long-term future with Manchester United, having just one year left on her contract. Speaking ahead of a crucial Women’s World Cup qualifier against Spain, Toone expressed the need to prioritize her own interests, mentioning, "I have a year left. Obviously it’s now time to talk. I just know I have got to make a decision on what’s best for me." While focusing on her international duties, Toone plans to enjoy her upcoming summer, which includes her wedding and a hen do, before turning her attention back to pre-season training with Manchester United. Reflecting on the just-concluded season, where the club finished fourth in the Women’s Super League and reached the League Cup final and Champions League quarter-finals, Toone stated, "We had a very good run in the Champions League, for our first time being in it as well. We should be really proud of how far we went in that competition." However, she also acknowledged the need for improvement, emphasizing that the team aims to compete for trophies and the league title. After a challenging period away from the pitch due to a stress fracture in her hip, the 26-year-old is pleased to be back in form and part of the England squad. She shared her struggles during her recovery, saying, "I’ve driven my family up the wall with not being able to play for such a long time." As England prepares for the match against Spain in Mallorca, a draw or win will secure qualification for next summer’s World Cup in Brazil. Toone remains focused on her immediate responsibilities while pondering her club future.
