Eddie Hearn's Candid Take on Conor Benn's World Title Ambitions

Eddie Hearn has provided a candid assessment of Conor Benn’s aspirations for a world title after witnessing his recent victory over Regis Prograis. This bout took place on the undercard of Tyson Fury’s fight against Arslanbek Makhmudov, marking Benn's return to the ring following his unexpected split from Hearn. Despite Benn outpointing Prograis, Hearn noted that the performance did not make the desired impact. Prograis, 37, later revealed that his pre-fight injury was more significant than previously disclosed, adding context to the match. Hearn, present at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, reflected on Benn's performance: "It’s not right of me... to start telling you he’s British-title level." He acknowledged Benn’s potential to challenge world-class fighters but expressed skepticism about Benn’s ability to secure victories against them, stating, "not in a million years" after Saturday's fight. He referenced Benn's previous encounters with Chris Eubank Jr, where he faced defeat before winning the rematch, arguing that Benn is a better fighter at higher weight classes. Hearn remarked: "I don’t think he beats those guys at 147lb, but I do think he’s a world-class fighter." He also mentioned that there are fighters at the British level who could potentially defeat Benn. In February, Benn's surprising decision to leave Hearn and sign a one-fight deal with Zuffa Boxing for an alleged $15 million disappointed Hearn, who had supported Benn throughout his career, including during his struggles with anti-doping tests in 2022. This split coincided with ongoing tensions between Hearn and UFC chief Dana White, highlighting the complexities of their professional relationships.
