Doc Rivers Hints at Retirement, Prioritizes Family Over Coaching Future

Milwaukee Bucks coach Doc Rivers hinted at a potential retirement while discussing his future following his announcement of induction into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. The 64-year-old coach expressed his desire to spend more time with his seven grandkids, all under the age of eight, emphasizing the emotional toll of missing important family events. In a statement before the Bucks' 96-90 loss to the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday, Rivers remarked, "I have grandkids that I want to see. I'll put it that way... It probably is time to go see them more, so I'll let you figure out the rest." This revelation has sparked speculation about Rivers' future with the Bucks, especially as reports suggest that his Hall of Fame induction might facilitate his departure or a shift to a different role within the organization. Former Memphis Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins has been identified as a potential candidate to succeed him if he steps down. Rivers still has one year remaining on his contract, and while he is not expected to walk away from the financial aspect, discussions with ownership and general manager Jon Horst regarding his future are on the horizon. Rivers previously held dual roles as both coach and executive during his time with the Los Angeles Clippers. Horst praised Rivers' efforts during a challenging season, stating, "Doc did his absolute best to keep the train on the rails... He was unbelievable to work with throughout the year." While Horst refrained from commenting on Rivers' contract directly, he acknowledged their partnership and expressed optimism about resolving Rivers' future role quickly.
