Dest Reflects on Barcelona Exit and Future Aspirations

Former Barcelona full-back Sergino Dest expressed that some of his ex-teammates, notably Ronald Araujo and Frenkie de Jong, did not understand his departure from the club. After two seasons at Camp Nou, where he played 72 games, scored three goals, and provided four assists, Dest transitioned through a loan stint at AC Milan before joining PSV Eindhoven in 2023. Dest articulated his openness to returning to Barcelona, calling it a dream, and praised Hansi Flick's style of play, stating, "I think I’d fit in well." Despite his fondness for Barcelona, his time under coach Xavi Hernandez saw him fall out of favor, prompting his loan move and subsequent free transfer to PSV. In a conversation with Araujo following a US-Uruguay match, Dest learned that both Araujo and De Jong felt he was a strong fit for the team. Currently contracted with PSV until 2028, Dest revealed his aspirations for a new challenge, emphasizing his desire to compete in a larger league. "I want to keep challenging myself... I want to be able to improve every week in a bigger league and compete against the best," he noted. Although he has received interest from other clubs, nothing concrete has materialized yet. Reflecting on his performance, he expressed regret over not showcasing his skills after a strong 2023-24 campaign, particularly due to a serious knee injury that limited him to just 375 minutes last season.
