Davina Perrin Embraces Growth After T20 World Cup Exclusion and Injury Setback

Young cricket talent Davina Perrin has come to terms with her omission from the Women’s T20 World Cup squad, a decision made even more poignant by a recent hamstring injury that will keep her sidelined for weeks. Despite her impressive 42-ball century in The Hundred last year, the 19-year-old was not selected for England’s 15-player squad, which favored more experienced athletes. Perrin acknowledges that she anticipated this decision, particularly after a modest debut season in the Big Bash League and a disappointing performance of just 37 runs across three innings during England’s intra-squad matches in South Africa. "I didn’t get a phone call, I got a message just as they were about to announce selection... it’s part and parcel of the journey," Perrin stated, emphasizing her understanding of the competitive nature of the selection process. She expressed her admiration for the selected squad, noting, "They’ve got a really, really strong squad; the girls are really looking really strong. That bowling attack, especially the spinners, it’s lethal. I just wish them all the best more than anything." Tragically, her hopes of being on standby were dashed after she sustained a hamstring injury on May 6 while playing for Warwickshire. "I was running at 60 percent... my hammy just went," she explained, detailing the moment of injury. Now, Perrin is focusing on recovery, aiming to return for The Hundred, where she will rejoin Birmingham Phoenix. "I’ve still got youth on my side... I just look forward to those experiences ahead of me," she affirmed, committed to continual growth and improvement in her game.
