Davide Ancelotti Takes the Helm at Lille for Champions League Campaign

Davide Ancelotti, son of renowned coach Carlo Ancelotti, has officially been appointed as the new manager of Lille OSC, marking his first managerial role in Europe. The 36-year-old has signed a two-year contract and is set to lead the Ligue 1 club into the Champions League for the upcoming season. Ancelotti steps into the managerial position following the departure of Bruno Génésio, whose contract was not renewed despite leading Lille to a commendable third-place finish in Ligue 1, ensuring their return to Europe’s elite competition. In a statement, Lille expressed their enthusiasm: “LOSC is delighted to welcome Davide Ancelotti as they prepare for the 2026-2027 season, which will combine Ligue 1 and the UEFA Champions League.” The club highlighted his extensive experience with top teams, emphasizing his reputation for developing young talent at the highest levels. Davide Ancelotti brings a rich background, having served as an assistant alongside his father at prestigious clubs such as Bayern Munich, Napoli, Everton, and Real Madrid. He also contributed to the Brazil national team during their successful 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign. Olivier Letang, Lille's president, praised Ancelotti, stating: “Davide is a consummate professional, possessing all the qualities and skills of a modern coach.” Letang noted his energy, determination, and maturity, expressing confidence in his ability to lead Lille’s sporting project. Ancelotti's previous head coaching experience includes a brief five-month stint at Botafogo, which concluded with his dismissal. Additionally, he worked as a fitness coach at Paris Saint-Germain over a decade ago during his father’s time there. Lille aims to build on last season’s Europa League campaign, where they reached the round of 16 before being eliminated by eventual champions Aston Villa.
