Bo Nix Challenges Payton's Claims on Injury as Broncos Look Ahead

Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix has publicly opposed head coach Sean Payton’s remarks regarding his recent ankle injury, which occurred during the team's NFL Playoffs victory over the Buffalo Bills. During a press conference, Payton described Nix's condition as "predisposed," suggesting that the injury was inevitable. He stated, "What was found was a condition that was predisposed — they always find a little more when they go in. It wasn't a matter of if, it was a matter of when." In response, Nix clarified his situation, labeling the injury a "typical bone break" and asserting there was nothing unusual about it. He remarked, "Nothing predisposed, nothing that was there originally. That might have gotten confused. Just a simple step with my foot up in the air, my body weight came down on it, sort of got twisted up." Looking ahead, Nix anticipates a recovery period of 4-6 weeks and expressed his preference for Payton to refrain from discussing his medical history publicly. He stated, "I don't think he really should share how many surgeries I've had in the past, to be honest with you — he doesn't even really know that." Despite the injury, Nix concluded the season with impressive stats: 3,931 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions, while leading the league with 612 passing attempts. In his absence, the Broncos turned to Jarrett Stidham for the AFC Championship Game, where they faced a narrow 10-7 defeat to the New England Patriots, who advanced to the Super Bowl.
