Barcelona Eyes Manchester City Star Josko Gvardiol Amidst Transfer Buzz

Barcelona continues its aggressive summer transfer strategy, now reportedly targeting Josko Gvardiol from Manchester City. Following their recent agreement with Newcastle United for Anthony Gordon, which is rumored to be around €80m, the Catalan club has shifted its focus towards the Croatian defender. Initially, Barcelona expressed interest in Alessandro Bastoni but appear to have lost momentum on that front. Gvardiol, previously noted as a top contender, was initially considered too costly. However, according to Cadena Cope, Barcelona is now actively pursuing a deal for Gvardiol, despite some inaccuracies regarding the length of his contract, which actually extends until 2028. In addition, there have been reports indicating that this interest might stem from an offer to Barcelona rather than a proactive pursuit. Meanwhile, Real Madrid has also been linked with Gvardiol, suggesting that the Croatian international is weighing his options amid speculation of a contract renewal at City. Both Barcelona and Real Madrid are in the market for a central defender, with the latter reportedly prioritizing this need. Gvardiol, who made a significant move from Dinamo Zagreb to RB Leipzig for €36.8m in 2021, later joined Manchester City for €90m. Over three seasons, he has established himself as a crucial player under Pep Guardiola, tallying 13 goals and 10 assists in 122 appearances, and has also played regularly at left-back.
