Asa Tribe's Century Sparks England Aspirations in Lions' Clash with South Africa A

Asa Tribe showcased his potential for a senior England call-up during the England Lions' second innings against South Africa A at the Arundel Castle Cricket Club Ground. After a challenging first innings where the Lions were bowled out for 157, they faced a daunting target following South Africa A's score of 331. Despite the early loss of fellow opener Ben McKinney (32), Tribe held the innings together. Finishing the day unbeaten on 88, he converted that into a remarkable 135 the following day, forming a crucial partnership with wicketkeeper Ben Mayes. Tribe reflected on the difficulties of the pitch, stating: "I definitely felt like it was tricky early on. It seamed around with the new ball and they put it in the right spots." His recent form has been impressive, scoring heavily once settled at the crease. Highlights include: A maiden double century against Northamptonshire last September. Three centuries for Jersey in the ICC Challenge League earlier this year. Having impressed with an unbeaten 129 against Australia A in December, Tribe aims to solidify his place in the England setup as selectors seek a long-term opening partnership. Despite playing for Jersey internationally, he remains eligible for England due to ICC membership status. Tribe stated his ambition: "When my time comes, I'll be ready." His journey has taken him from Jersey to various competitions worldwide, including a stint with Paarl Royals in South Africa, where he refined his technique. He emphasized the importance of exposure to higher standards of cricket, noting: "The reason we have this type of cricket where we play against the second team of other countries is that it is going to be a better standard." As Tribe continues to impress, the cricket world watches closely to see if he will become the first Glamorgan player since Simon Jones in 2005 to don the England shirt.
