Arshdeep Singh Faces ICC Sanction After Heated Moment with Daryl Mitchell

India bowler Arshdeep Singh has been fined by the International Cricket Council (ICC) after an incident involving New Zealand batsman Daryl Mitchell during the T20 World Cup final on October 8, 2023. Arshdeep threw the ball at Mitchell, striking him on the pads in the 11th over of New Zealand's run chase, which followed a challenging period for the bowler who had conceded two sixes. A visibly frustrated Mitchell reacted by gesticulating and approaching Arshdeep, who opted to walk back to his mark without offering an apology. This prompted India's captain Suryakumar Yadav to intervene and diffuse the situation before it escalated further. The ICC found Arshdeep guilty of breaching the Code of Conduct for "throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment) at or near a player in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner." He accepted the sanction, resulting in a 15% fine of his match fee and the addition of one demerit point to his disciplinary record, thus avoiding a formal hearing. In a triumphant context, India secured a historic victory, becoming the first men's team to win the T20 World Cup three times and the first to achieve back-to-back titles, defeating New Zealand by 96 runs in Ahmedabad.
