Arsenal Eyes Versatile Defender Oscar Mingueza Ahead of Potential Move

Arsenal has once again turned its attention to the La Liga market as they eye Oscar Mingueza from Celta Vigo ahead of the 2026 season. Following successful acquisitions of Martin Zubimendi and Cristhian Mosquera last summer, the Gunners are looking to enhance their defensive lineup. According to the BBC (via ED), Mikel Arteta’s squad values Mingueza for his adaptability, showcasing proficiency in both full-back positions. The 26-year-old defender is set to leave Celta Vigo at the end of the current season, with his contract expiring in June. Despite ongoing discussions, Mingueza has shown no inclination to extend his stay at Balaidos. Marco Garcés, Celta’s sporting director, acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding Mingueza's future, stating: "The situation is up in the air. He knows that he has an offer from us, and we hope that he will make a decision. He has not responded yet." Despite Celta's hopes for a renewal, indications suggest a likely move to the Premier League. This potential departure could also impact Barcelona, which holds a 50% sell-on clause from Mingueza’s previous tenure at the club. If Mingueza transitions away from Galicia as a free agent, Barcelona would lose out on this financial benefit.
