Adam Azim Targets IBF World Title After Dominating Win Over Steve Claggett

Adam Azim, the rising British light-welterweight star, has set his sights firmly on securing the IBF world title following his impressive third-round stoppage of Steve Claggett at Wembley Arena on Saturday night. This victory has further solidified Azim’s reputation in the competitive 140lbs division. While there was speculation about a domestic clash with Dalton Smith, that bout has been delayed due to Smith's injury, allowing Azim to focus entirely on the vacant IBF title. Azim stated, "Yeah, obviously there is no massive rush for me, I am still young and have still got a lot of years in the game. To build a mega fight up, you want to have a world title... it’s a massive unification showdown in Britain." Azim expressed his eagerness to fight for the IBF title, saying, "I really want to fight for (IBF). If it is there, I will take it with both hands and next fight hopefully I can take that and fight for a world title." His confidence stems from having faced formidable opponents like Sergey Lipinets, Kurt Scoby, and Claggett, asserting, "I think I deserve it now." Looking ahead, Azim anticipates returning to the ring in September or October, ideally for the IBF crown. His victory over Claggett marked him as the first fighter in 15 years to stop the Canadian. Despite the IBF ordering Lindolfo Delgado and Artur Biyarslanov to contest the belt, Azim’s promoter, Ben Shalom of BOXXER, hinted that one contender might step aside for Azim, who is a trailblazer for British Asians in boxing. Reflecting on his recent win, Azim remarked, "I feel very good... I defo deserve it." He also mentioned the uncertainty around the IBF title fight, emphasizing his desire for an opportunity in Riyadh season.
